MOROCCO AND SAHARA 2006

One more year Territori4x4 traveled to Morocco. On an exciting route, stepping on and crossing the most important Ergs in Morocco. On this trip, which we proposed as an initiation to adventure travel, all the objectives were met, and above all the main objective: to enjoy and have a good time.

We met in Almeria, there we embarked on the Ferrymarroc ship “Wisteria”, after sailing all night, we arrived in Nador very early. The customs procedures were very fast, and soon all the groups were on the move. We entered the Plateau de Reckam, a huge place, where navigation is important, we ate en route. In the afternoon we arrive in Midelt.

The next day by road we approach the entrance to the track. Track used in the last edition of the Dakar Rally. We ate in an oasis full of palm trees. In the afternoon, we arrive in Erfoud and stay at the Hotel Xaluca. Definitely a good hotel.

The big day has arrived. We head to l’Erg Chebbi. We greet our friends from Kasbah Le Toureg. We prepare the cars, we take weight off them to evolve better through the dunes, we also adjust the tire pressure, 1.2 for the vehicles, let’s say normal, 0.5 for the Hummer. Then, after a theoretical explanation of how to face the dunes, we enter them. For a first contact with the dunes, we set ourselves a simple goal: to reach the hidden Oasis and return to the Kasbah. It was successfully achieved. There were some hooks, but we wouldn’t be human if there hadn’t been. In the afternoon the challenge of the trip, to climb the Great Dune, we all tried and some climbed “almost”. As a final exam of the first contact in dunes, the Machiavellian Lluis had prepared a very fat one for us, going down from the Plateau to the foot of the great dune by the ridge directly, 50/60 meters of almost vertical descent, at first people were reluctant, but once tried, it was like the Dragon Khan of Port Aventura, A queue formed to repeat.

48The next day, we went to M’hamid on the forbidden track. We stopped in the Ouzina area to deliver school and sports equipment to an association that brings together several villages in the area. The collection of the material delivered and organized by the brothers José Mª and Domingo Sanz, was very emotional, and above all very useful for those who received the help. Despite the sandstorm that accompanied us throughout the day, the day was impressive. On the way, we couldn’t help but cross the Erg. Auzina, with what we had learned the day before, did not cost us too much work. At dusk we arrived at the hotel, wanting to have dinner and rest.

On the new day, those who still didn’t have enough headed to the Erg. Chegaga, another group went to the Sacred Oasis and the rest decided to visit the largest palm grove in Morocco. It was a full day for everyone, a day of farewell to the desert and the beginning of the return home. We all slept in our hotel in Ourzazate.

After breakfast the groups headed to Marrackeh, passing through the route of the 1000 Kasbah. Very busy by other 4x4s, but beautiful, really one of the most beautiful places in Morocco. We ate at the Hotel Royal Le Mirage, undoubtedly one of the best in the city. In the afternoon visit to the Souk and dinner in Al Djna Square. For dessert an orange juice.

In the morning we leave in the direction of Rabat, we visit Safi, a port city, famous for its ceramics market. Territori4x4 took advantage of our passage on the Atlantic side to celebrate the end-of-trip meal. We have oysters, soles, spider crabs, lobsters, etc.

In the morning we headed to Tangier, sad for the end of the adventure, but happy for what they experienced. We took our Fast Ferry a little late and with the usual messes. Everyone is in a hurry to leave for Spain.

In short, an exciting adventure full of new sensations, in which we made new friends. Adults and children enjoyed it very much.
